An elegant dangly grass. I tried to grow wafty grasses like miscanthus, but they didn’t like our cold wet soil, so I cultivated a local wild plant instead. It’s a beautiful clump forming grass with leathery leaves and tall arching stems in early summer, and very popular with our wholesale customers. The flowers create a row of dangling seedheads. The seeds are apparently edible and were an early grain, but I haven’t tried eating it.
It loves a damp boggy soil and is often seen in ditches around here, so keep it damp. Give it plenty of space, or plant it with short-lived perennials so that it can spread into their space when they give up.
Height 1.5m
Spread 1m
Quantity 0.25g/approx 100 seeds
